Michael Caine – Chair

Senior Nat West Bank Manager. Responsibilities include the provision of Commercial Finance, Corporate Restructuring solutions, Financial Analysis, Relationship Management, Service Level maintenance and Business Development. These responsibilities require skills in understanding Financial Statements, an ability to strip down Financial Information, understanding Credit Risk, finding Solutions and having Interpersonal Skills to maintain good Business Relationships. Previously Chair of St Bede Primary Academy.


Jack Hatch O.B.E – C.E.O *

Chief Executive Officer of St Bede CE Primary Multi Academy Trust. Originally Executive Head Teacher of St Bede C of E Primary Academy (Ofsted outstanding rated), with 530+ children. Chief Executive of St Bede Childcare Ltd (a fully registered childcare charity within the North West) and Chief Executive of Primary Alliance for Learning (A successful Teaching School). A National Leader of Education, supporting other local schools to deliver quality out of school care and education, firmly believing that children deserve the best start in life. A member of a number of national working groups for the Department of Education. Was previously the National Treasurer for the National Association for Head teacher and was recently North West President for the same association. A National Leader in Education and a representative on the Local Authority’s Early Years’ forums, as well as a Pupil Premium Champion. Awarded an OBE in June 2015 for services to education.

Graham John Cohen

Qualified in June 15 (BA Hons in Primary Education with QTS) with a long career in working within education, particularly within Church of England Primary schools and academies. Worked within numerous schools and year groups gaining essential knowledge of the challenges within the education sector and what is expected of schools to be able to provide an outstanding education. Additional role as a youth theatre director (for over 25 years) provides a useful skill in terms of planning, presenting and problem solving. Was an installation manager (for 7 years) encompassed annual project management of £18m budget, where cost control, project planning and liaising with colleagues was essential to the success of each task. This combination of educational knowledge and business acumen ensures he is able to operate at a strategic level within the MAT board

Ian Walkden *

Chartered Accountant with over 35 years commercial experience in a variety of roles ranging from audit of PLCs to Chief Financial Accountant of a £2bn turnover business incorporating the following major activities- retail, distribution, farming, funerals, travel, non-food manufacturing. Main aspects of the role included the production of the annual Group Consolidated Statutory accounts; consolidation of the annual Group budget; monthly Executive Management accounts and Board reporting; evaluation of capital investment projects (acquisition of businesses etc), management of the Central Finance function including both capital and investments. Latterly worked in a £350m turnover FMCG business. Main aspects of the role included balance sheet control, including variance analysis, production of annual Statutory Accounts, cash flow reporting including both variance analysis and forecasting, preparation and submission of Corporation Tax computations and returns for the various businesses incorporated within in the group.

Kevin R Barton

An entrepreneur of a successful business encompassing raising finance, product selection, production, sales and marketing. Managerial experience including both staff and contractors. Experienced in health, safety in the workplace and provides advice to the MAT in this area (including food hygiene). Has a background in auto engineering where a strong aptitude in project management and problem solving was essential.

Revd Malcolm Bristow *

Originally a foundation Governor of St Bede’s school from the time it became a single site school and came together as a Junior mixed and Infants school (aided). Church and School Reader and takes assemblies on a regular basis, instituting also an ecumenical approach by involving Ministers from other local denominations:- Salvation Army, Methodist, Church of the Nazarene and of course our own Priest in Charge at St Bede. Uses transferable skills (from employment as a Manager /Practitioner with Bolton Social Services Department) as a Director of the MAT (in such areas as general management skills, communications, interviewing, counselling encouragement and support). A Magistrate sitting on the Bolton Bench in adult criminal, and Family Courts, as well as chairing the Lord Chancellors Advisory Committee for appointment of new Justices. This involves not only interviewing new candidates but disciplinary and pastoral matters. Committed and dedicated to the Christian ethos in every aspect of school life. In July 2012 ordained in Manchester Cathedral.

Nanji Vekria *

Previously a self employed Mortgage & Protection advisor and currently a department manager in a large local firm. Skills include strong financial acumen, forward planning and people management. Previously Vice Chair at St Bede Primary Academy and a member of the finance committee
